Countdown to Face-Off

December 10, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) News Release


For the fifth time this season, the Kalamazoo Wings and Port Huron Flags will face-off against one another. Kalamazoo defeated Port Huron 7-3 in their last encounter on November 24th at Wings Stadium. All-time the K-Wings lead the series over the Flags with a record of 12-1-1.

Today starts a two-game abbreviated road trip for the K-Wings. Kalamazoo is 7-3-0 in contests away from Wings Stadium. The K-Wings are also looking to extend a three-game road winning streak, the second longest current road winning streak in the league.

After losing 5-4 in a shootout last night in Muskegon, Port Huron returns home to the McMorran Place Arena. The Flags, who are 6-13-4 on the season, have played their best hockey on home going 5-5-2 at the McMorran Place Arena.

Closing in on a Milestone
One K-Wing is closing in on a career milestone. Assistant Captain Kory Karlander is just three assists shy of 300 for his career. Karlander has dished out 14 assists so far this season.

A Group Effort
With Tom Askey's assist in last night's game, every member of the K-Wings roster has generated a point. Kalamazoo is the lone team in the league to receive offensive contribution from all of their players.

Road Warriors
So far this season the K-Wings are as comfortable on the road as they are at Wings Stadium. Kalamazoo has a record of 7-3-0 on the road and currently a three game road-win streak.

A Rookie Rarity
On November 29th forward Justin Cross recorded his first hat trick of his pro career and the 35th in
K-Wings UHL history. Of the 35 hat tricks accumulated by Kalamazoo, Cross' was just the fourth accomplished by a rookie.
