Cougars Weekly: News and Notes on Your California Cougars

December 31, 2010 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) - California Cougars News Release

Cougars Score First PASL Victory of the Year in Dramatic Fashion

The California Cougars circled the wagons for what was a must win in front of a crowd of nearly 1300 as they defeated PASL league leaders and defending champions, the San Diego Sockers, 9-8 with an Overtime Golden Goal by Uriel Robledo.

The Cougars started off in an early hole, as San Diego scored 4 early unanswered goals, including two by Kraig Chiles. From that point on the Cougars outplayed San Diego, out-scoring the Sockers 4-1 in the 2nd period, led by two goals by Enrique Tovar. It was a back and forth affair in the 2nd half as the Cougars and Sockers traded goals. San Diego took a 7-5 lead into the 3rd quarter only to see the Cougars come back with 3 4th quarter goals by Enrique Tovar, Antonio Sutton and Jorge Martinez

That sent the game into overtime tied at 8, where Uriel Robledo ended things barley a minute in with the Golden Goal, his only goal of the game.

Sutton Named PASL Player of the Week

Our very own Antonio Sutton has earned the PASL Player of the Week award for his performance in Monday's thrilling 9-8 overtime victory over league leading San Diego. Sutton notched 2 goals and 1 assist in Monday's victory, including the game tying goal just minutes before the end of regulation. Sutton's 2 goal performance gives him 7 goals in the Cougars last two games.

"It's always nice to get an honor like this, but I'm much happier with how our entire team came together and played", said Sutton. "Our veterans really stepped it up another level, and to perform like that in a must win against the top team in the league really shows how much drive and character our team has developed since the start of the season."
