Cougars to Play in Final Four
STOCKTON, Calif. - Feb. 11, 2009 - The Stockton Cougars, of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL-Pro), continue their pursuit of the United States Arena Soccer Open Cup championship when they play the Premier Arena Soccer League's Tacoma Stars on March 1 at Cabernet Indoor Sports in Livermore, CA at 1:00PM. The winner will advance to the Open Cup championship match on a yet to be determined date.
Tickets to the match are available through the Cougars' front office by calling (209) 373-1550. Tickets to the Final Four event are $20 each.
Cabernet Indoor Sports is located 6474 Patterson Pass Road in Livermore. They can be reached at 925-455-8300.
Tacoma - coached by Cougars' midfielder Greg Howes - advanced to the final four leg of the tournament by besting both the Wenatchee Fire F.C. and the Denver Dynamite. They are the only amateur (PASL-Premier) team to have advanced to the tournament's semi-finals.
Like Cougars' head coach Bernie Lilavois, Howes is both coach and player for the Stars. He led them to a 10-9 overtime win against Wenatchee on January 17 at the Wenatchee Valley Sportsplex and an 11-2 dismantling against Denver in Tacoma on January 25. The streaking Stars - like the Cougars - are 2-0 in the Open Cup tournament.
Stockton advanced to the Final Four with wins against Off The Wall Soccer Santa Clara on December 20 and the San Diego Sockers on January 11. Both matches were played at Stockton Arena.
The eastern branch of the final four puts Detroit Waza Flo Pro against the St. Louis Illusion on February 16 at The Game Arena in Glen Carbon, IL.
The match will be broadcast live on www.stocktoncougars.net via online streaming audio beginning at 12:45PM.
