Cougars to host second open tryout

Stockton, CA - The Stockton Cougars, of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL-Pro), will hold an open tryout at their official practice facility, Big League Dreams in Manteca, CA, on Saturday, July 19, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
It is the second open tryout held by the Cougars, and like the first held at Turlock Indoor Soccer on May 10, it is open to any player interested in becoming both a member of the Cougars and the new Professional division of the PASL.
Interested parties should contact head coach Bernie Lilavois by calling the Cougars front office at (209) 373-1550. Participants will be required to complete registration and waiver forms which will be available at check in. A $25 registration due is also required to participate.
Lilavois will once again participate in the tryouts and evaluate the local talent. He took over as the head coach of the Cougars during the 2006-07 season. He posted an 11-19 record in his first full season at the helm of the Cougars. The team had previously never won more than 10 games before Lilavois took over. Lilavois will be joined by members of the Stockton Pumas and Stockton Cougars at the tryouts. The Pumas are the official reserve squad of the Cougars and the Premier (amateur) division of the PASL.
Last year's tryouts drew players from all over California. The majority of the hopefuls made the trek from Southern California in an attempt to make the professional team. Some even traveled from as far as Europe to try their luck with coach Lilavois and the Cougars.
The PASL-Pro is a newly formed professional arena soccer league. It announced its inaugural regular season would consist of a 16 game schedule beginning on October 25 with a Championship Weekend taking place in Stockton, CA on March 13-15, 2009. The Cougars are entering their fourth year of existence and their first as a member of the PASL-Pro.
