
Cougars Ring in the New Year with Home Match Against Calgary

STOCKTON, Calif. - The first place Stockton Cougars, of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL-Pro), attempt to improve on their franchise record 5-1 start when they host the Calgary United on Saturday, January 3 at Stockton Arena beginning at 7:15PM.
The match is preceded by a Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL-Premier) game between the Turlock Express and Off the Wall Soccer Santa Clara. The Express (0-2-1) are the official development team of the Cougars and have played two consecutive matches at Stockton Arena. Doors open at 5:00PM, the Express match starts at 5:15PM.

Calgary (4-3) currently sits in second place in the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League (CMISL) division of the PASL-Pro. They have won their last two matches, but are 0-2 on the road this season.
The United offense has averaged just 5.6 points per match over seven games played this year. Stockton has averaged a league best 12.8 goals forced over six games this season. The Calgary offensive attack is led by forward Felix Napuri and midfielder Milan Timotijevic who both have seven goals this season. Napuri leads the team with seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in seven games.
The first place Cougars - coming off their second road win this season (12-6 on December 27 in Wenatchee, WA) - have won two straight PASL-Pro matches and are 4-0 in the PASL-Pro Western Division.
The Cougars are led by midfielder Brian Farber and forward Aaron Susi; both have scored 20 points this season. Farber leads the team with 14 goals. Head coach Bernie Lilavois leads the team with 10 assists. Midfielder Majell Aterado scored three goals on December 27 against Wenatchee. It was his third consecutive match with three goals or more forced.
Stockton is 1-0 in the US Arena Soccer Open Cup tournament and will face San Diego for the second time this season on January 11 at 6:15PM in United States Arena Soccer Open Cup tournament play. The Sockers advanced to the next round of the US Arena Soccer Open Cup by defeating the PASL-Premier's San Diego Fusion last Saturday, 7-1. The winner of the January 11 match will advance to the Final Four of the US Arena Soccer Open Cup tournament.
The Sockers were the first of just two teams to hold the Cougars to fewer than 10 goals forced in a match. Stockton beat San Diego, 6-4, on November 9 at Stockton Arena. The Cougars were without midfielder Greg Howes and Lilavois in the match. Both players were with the United States National Arena Soccer team that finished second in the Torneo Internacional de Futbol Rapido tournament in Monterrey, Mexico.
