Cougars Announce 2009-10 Schedule: Historic 5th Season Begins Under New Ownership

October 7, 2009 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
California Cougars News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - October 7, 2009 - The California Cougars, of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL-Pro), announced today the 2009-10 season schedule and that the club will begin the upcoming 2009-10 season under a new ownership group led by managing partner Mr. Arturo Pulido of Turlock Indoor Soccer.

The defending arena soccer league champion Cougars look to repeat in the 2009-10 season starting with their first regular season match in San Diego versus the Sockers on November 20. Their first home date at Stockton Arena is an exhibition match versus the "Stars of Mexico" on Sunday, November 8.

The 16 game regular season schedule will consist of eight road games and eight home dates. Of the eight home games, four will be played at Stockton Arena and four will be held at various locations in the Central Valley. The Cougars are scheduled to play two regular season matches at Turlock Indoor Soccer and two at Estadio Azteca Sports Arena in Sacramento. The announced schedule also includes one US Open Cup match and the exhibition on November 8 for a total of 18 games.

The Cougars will play a limited home schedule at Stockton Arena this season. The changes, according to PASL commissioner Kevin Milliken are due to Cougars' ownership changes occurring between late August and the middle of September.

"The purchase agreement with Cabernet Sports Entertainment dissolved in the eleventh hour," stated Milliken. "A partnership group from Turlock Indoor Soccer lead by Mr. Pulido came in at the last minute and saved the team."

Milliken added that "the new group did not have enough time to properly organize the team to play the earlier games at Stockton Arena. The City of Stockton, Mr. Jim Rachels, and the management team at Stockton Arena have been very helpful in finalizing this deal at the last minute. The new ownership group thanks the sponsors and fans in advance for their continued support of the team this season."

Ten of the 16 regular season games will be played against division opponents, four versus provisional opponents and one versus the Edmonton Drillers of the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League. The Cougars were 2-0 versus Edmonton last season. That recorded included a dominating regular season win and a thrilling overtime win during the PASL-Pro Semi-Finals on March 14, 2009.

The Cougars schedule features two road dates in November and six in January. The season ends with four consecutive home games at Stockton Arena. Season ticket plans are available for purchase by calling (209) 373-1550.
