Cougars Add Archibald And Muluzi From PASL

Stockton, CA - The California Cougars, of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), announce the signings of forward Garth Archibald and midfielder Dalitso Muluzi for the remainder of the season. Both players have spent time with the Stockton Pumas of the Premiere Arena Soccer League (PASL). Per team policy, terms of the deals will not be disclosed.

The Pumas battle Off The Wall Santa Clara for the PASL Pacific Division Winter Championship on Saturday March 15, 2008 in Santa Clara . The Pumas are the official minor league development team of the California Cougars. The Pumas are the defending PASL Summer National Champions. Goalkeeper Matt McDougall was named the most valuable player in last summer's championship tournament.

Archibald and Muluzi are the fourth and fifth additions from the PASL to the Cougars current roster. Twelve players on the Cougars active roster have seen playing time in the PASL this season. Four of the twelve have been developed through the Cougars minor league affiliate system. Lee Williams, Aaron Bonser and Franck Mbemba are the only existing Cougars players to have played for PASL teams outside of California. Bonser is from CNY United in New York and Mbemba is from Soccer Studio in Texas.

Archibald spent several seasons with the Chico Bigfoot, but most recently has played for the Pumas. Archibald was born in Chico, CA on June 13, 1984. The 6-0, 180 lbs. forward has extensive collegiate experience in both soccer and football. He has played for Chico State University, Butte Junior College, Cuesta Junior College and the University of New Mexico. Archibald played as a place kicker for both Butte Junior College and the University of New Mexico. He and Josh Copeland were one of two Pumas players to be nominated for the PASL All-Star team that was defeated by the Cougars on February 10, 2008 by a final of 27-10.

Muluzi has played extensively for the Pumas this season. He is a native of Malawi and attended college at the University of Alabama. Muluzi currently resides in Patterson, CA and is pursuing his masters in Economics. Muluzi (5'7", 145 lbs.) participated in the Cougars preseason tryouts in Turlock at Turlock Indoor Soccer. He was one of 11 players invited to try out again at Estadio Azteca in Sacramento the following weekend.

The Cougars play the Ironmen for the final time in the regular season this Saturday at 7:15 p.m. The match will feature the return of head coach Bernie Lilavois to the playing field as player-coach at Stockton Arena. The Cougars are currently four games behind New Jersey for the sixth and final playoff spot with just seven games remaining on the regular season schedule for both teams.
