NEW YORK - The New York Cosmos announced today that the club will hold trials for New York Cosmos B, its 2015 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) championship winning team, on March 30-31. Fernando Barboto will serve as head coach of Cosmos B.

"I'm excited to get started on building the 2016 Cosmos B team," Barboto added. "We had a great turn out for tryouts last year and it'll be great to see the talent that comes through this year."

Aspiring trialists for Cosmos B should register their interest at http://bit.ly/1SaSheP providing the following information:

The registration deadline is Friday March 25. Players selected for trials will be notified by phone or email. The team's NPSL season will begin in May and run through July.

"Cosmos B is an important part of our club structure," said Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese. "It is an opportunity for us to identify talent and create pathways for young players. Ruben Bover is a good example of a player who came through Cosmos B and is now a first team player."

The NPSL has experienced meteoric growth since its inception in 2002, growing into a robust league with teams across the country. Currently the NPSL has over 70 teams in four regions: West, Midwest, Northeast, and South. Current Cosmos Head Scout and Performance Analyst Dane Murphy (New York Athletic Club) and current Cosmos player Jimmy Mulligan (Brooklyn Italians) are both NPSL alumni.

New York Cosmos B will play in the Northeast Region's North Atlantic Conference. Their 2016 opponents will include the Brooklyn Italians, Greater Lowell United FC, New York Athletic Club, Rhode Island Reds, Seacoast United Mariners, and Seacoast United Phantoms, Boston City FC and Kingston Stockade FC

Barboto, an NSCAA All-American in his senior season at New Jersey's Montclair State University, played six seasons of professional soccer with the North Jersey Imperials in what was then the United Soccer League (USL). His first head coaching position came with his alma mater in 1995, as he led the Montclair State women's soccer team for three seasons.

After three years served as head coach of the Saint Francis University men's soccer team, Barboto assumed that position at Iona College in 2003 and held it for 13 straight seasons, transforming the Gaels into a Division I power and becoming the winningest coach in program history. He was appointed head coach of the New Jersey Institute of Technology a month ago, becoming the fourth men's head soccer coach since the program moved to Division I.

The Cosmos B game schedule, including location, will be announced at a later date.
