New York Cosmos News Release
NEW YORK (April. 11, 2014) - The New York Cosmos announced today that the team will welcome Seiko into its growing family of corporate partners. With the agreement, Seiko becomes the Official Timekeeper of the New York Cosmos.
Seiko will promote the Seiko Astron watch - the world's first solar GPS watch with revolutionary time and time zone adjustment through its Cosmos sponsorship. The company will also benefit from significant branding opportunities at Cosmos matches in Hofstra University's Shuart Stadium. The Seiko brand will also feature on-screen with the match timer during Cosmos home game broadcasts on ONE World Sports and on the game countdown clock on the Cosmos' official website nycosmos.com.
"We are delighted to partner with such a globally-recognized brand in Seiko," said Cosmos Chief Operating Officer Erik Stover. "We look forward to working with Seiko as we continue to strengthen our club both on and off the field."
Since being established in 1881, Seiko has contributed to society with one revolutionary product after another - starting with the production of Japan's first wristwatch in 1913 and including the creation of the world's first quartz watch in 1969.
Seiko has also been the official timekeeper at many international sporting events since the Tokyo Olympic Games in 1964 and its other current sports sponsorships include the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
