Amarillo Venom News Release

Corpus Christi, TX - Despite twenty-one fourth quarter points, the Amarillo Venom fell to the Corpus Christi Hammerheads 34-24 Saturday night.

After Corpus Christi running back Justin Hardman rushed for his fourteenth score of the season, Amarillo mustered only a 31-yard Darren McCaleb field goal (season long) in the first quarter. Hammerheads wide receiver Julius Eppinger added his first receiving touchdown of the season, as Corpus Christi led Amarillo 14-3 after one.

The Venom offense was held to zero points on three second-quarter possessions in the second. Hammerheads running back Redford Borel and wide receiver Corey Brittian (Corpus Christi debut) both scored touchdowns to give Corpus Christi the 28-3 halftime lead.

Each team had two possessions in the third quarter, but both defenses did not allow a score. End of three, Corpus Christi 28, Amarillo 3.

Amarillo's offense stepped up in the fourth, as running back Sha-Ron Edwards and wide receivers Kendrick Walker and Raymond Johnson (kickoff return for a score) all scored touchdowns in the frame for the Venom. The Amarillo offense drove the field with less than five minutes to go, trying to pull within three, but quarterback Julian Reese's pass bounced off Kendrick Walker and into the hands of Corpus Christi defensive back Henry Hall. Final score, Corpus Christi 34, Amarillo 24.
