Jon Cornish has been named the CFL's Canadian player of the week for his performance in a Week 11 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos.

Cornish led the Stamps in both rushing and receiving on Friday as Calgary upended the Eskimos 22-12 at Commonwealth Stadium. He rushed for 131 yards - averaging 9.4 yards per carry - and made six catches for 46 yards and a touchdown.

In four career starts at the Eskimos' home field, Cornish has accumulated an impressive 512 yards and earned the CFL's Canadian player-of-the-week honours on each occasion. This marks the third time this season Cornish has been named the CFL's Canadian player of the week and he has received the honour a total of 17 times in his career.

Cornish is now just 60 yards away from a second consecutive 1,000-yard season and his 6.8-yard average per carry is tops among CFL running backs.

Stamps players have received weekly awards a total of 10 times this season. In addition to Cornish's three top Canadian awards and his offensive player-of-the-week nod in Week 7, Charleston Hughes (top defensive player) and Rene Paredes (special teams) have both been recognized on two occasions while Bo Levi Mitchell (Week 5) and Maurice Price (Week 10) have been named offensive player of the week.

Also, Cornish (Canadian) and Paredes (special teams) were the CFL's players of the month for June/July.

The Stampeders' next home action comes on Friday when Calgary hosts the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Kickoff at McMahon Stadium is at 7 p.m. and tickets are available at Stampeders.com.
