Rochester Rhinos News Release
The Rhinos hosted Montreal this Saturday night, so no doubt all eyes were on Christian Volesky who has become unstoppable against the rivals from up North. Volesky went into the match with eight goals in just six games against FC Montreal, and he would leave with one more.
Montreal came off the bench fighting with an early goal in the 13', Mkungilwa chipped the ball just over Gomez's head to take an early lead off of a free kick.
Just before half in the 33', the one and only Christian Volesky did what he does best against FC Montreal to find the equalizer and make it 1-1. The goal would be his ninth in seven games against the team. Forbes sent a corner to Volesky who headed it straight into the back of the net. This would be his fourth goal this season against Montreal.
"I don't know what it is against Montreal. My confidence is always high going into the games. I have a good record against them and always try to add to it. We know how to beat them and get behinf them." said Volesky.
The teams went into the half with the Rhinos outshooting Montreal 6-2 and the score tied.
The third time was the charm for the Rhinos, who on their third corner kick with service from Joe Farrell found the head of Steevan Dos Santos who in the 49' made the score 2-1 Rochester Rhinos. The goal was Dos Santos' fourth of the year.
Volesky wasn't finished with Montreal yet, he entered the box alone for a one on one with Montreal goalkeeper Crepeau but wise to his tricks Crepeau came out with a challenge to defend the net.
From then on play picked up to a steady back and forth between the teams with both having opportunities to change the game. Dos Santos fired a shot just over the crossbar, then another one straight at the post.
Gomez remained strong in the Rhinos net, seeing 12 shots in regulation. A hard shot by Riggi kept Gomez on his toes in the 72'. Dos Santos and Volesky kept up the intensity, with Dos Santos sending Volesky into the Montreal eighteen who fought for a corner.
The corner would result in the Rhinos third goal of the night, with all three being set up by corner kicks. Wal Fall scored his first goal of the season to make it 3-1 Rochester Rhinos. Volesky headed it to Fall who shot the ball from about ten yards out.
Three goals off three corners would be enough for the Rhinos to find victory against Montreal for the third time this seasons.
The Rhinos return home on August third to face the Richmond Kickers at 7:05.
