Florida Tropics SC News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Tropics will look to continue to have success at the RP Funding Center when they host the Harrisburg Heat for a pair of Major Arena Soccer League games this Friday and Sunday.
The Tropics are in the middle of an unprecedented nine-game homestand, and after opening their home schedule with a one-goal loss to the Ontario Fury, the team has won three in a row. Friday's kickoff is at 7:05 p.m. with Sunday's start set for 3:05 p.m. The Dallas Sidekicks will be in Lakeland for games Jan. 21 and 23, with the month concluding with a home game Jan. 30 against the St. Louis Ambush.
At 5-1, the Tropics sit atop the MASL's four-team Eastern Division, while the Heat are still in search of their first win of the 2021-22 campaign at 0-3. However, the Heat have had 4-1 second-half leads in two of their three losses, but have been unable to protect them in the final two quarters.
Florida comes in led by goalkeeper Hugo Silva, who for the second time on the young year has been named MASL Defensive Player of the Week. His goals against average (3.80) and saves percentage (.793) both rank second in the league. Offensively, Zach Reget continues to be the goal scoring leader with six, while Captain Victor Parreiras leads in points with 10 (five goals, five assists).
Harrisburg is led by forward Michael Cunningham who has four goals and two assists to date. Dominic Francis has chipped in with three goals and two assists.
The games will be broadcast live on the MASL's YouTube channel. Friday's game will be shown on a tape-delay basis while Sunday's game will be live on the "For the Fans" network available on DirecTV (Channel 623) and many cable and streaming services such as AT&T Uverse, Verizon Fios and Roku.
Local fans can score free general admission to all of the team's home games this winter thanks to its sponsors who are presenting the "Tropics Blitz".
The "Tropics Blitz" will provide free general admission tickets as a way of providing a great evening of family entertainment for parents and kids who have had their activities curtailed because of the ongoing pandemic. Vehicles with two or more persons will pay $20 to park, and then be able to take their parking receipt to the RP Funding Center box office for the same number of free tickets to that day's game as occupants in the vehicle. Single occupant vehicles will pay just $10 for parking.
