Connecticut Whale News Release

The Connecticut Whale of the National Women's Hockey League will face the University of Connecticut of the NCAA's Hockey East in a preseason game on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m.

The matchup of Connecticut hockey teams will be at Freitas Ice Forum, the on-campus home of UCONN hockey. Admission is free for all fans.

"Our partnership with UCONN's women's hockey program benefits both teams in our preparations for the NWHL and NCAA seasons," said Whale general manager Bray Ketchum. "We're looking forward to an exciting game against an outstanding team, as we take steps in building the Whale lineup."

Among the leaders of the Whale is a trio of defenders who have been in the NWHL since its inaugural season in 2015-16: Jordan Brickner (Colgate, Wisconsin), Shannon Doyle (Colgate, Boston University), and Elena Orlando (Quinnipiac).

UConn enters the 2019-20 season coming off a 14-18-4 mark and an appearance in the Hockey East quarterfinals. The captain of the team is rising senior Briana Colangelo, a Whitby, Ont. native who appeared in all 36 games last season for the Huskies and had 7 goals and a team-high 18 assists.
