Connecticut Whale Bring Back First Critical Piece as Brooke Wolejko Signs NWHL Contract for 2020-21

BROOKLYN - Brooke Wolejko, the outstanding goaltender of the Connecticut Whale who was named one of the NWHL Fans' Three Stars of the Season, has signed a contract to return to the team for the 2020-21 season.

"Accepting the opportunity to re-sign with the Whale was an easy decision after such an unforgettable season," said Wolejko. "I had a blast this season and am really grateful for the opportunity to continue playing the game I love. We showed a lot of grit and I'm really proud to be on a team with teammates who are so passionate, and coaches who believe in us. The NWHL's commitment to advancing professional women's hockey really shows the league's belief in us as not only athletes, but as women. I am excited to be a part of building a future for our younger generation of female hockey players."

In her rookie NWHL season in 2019-20, Wolejko finished fourth among NWHL goaltenders in save percentage (.914) and set the team record for saves in a season (458) saves. Wolejko made at least 45 saves five times, and she averaged a league-best 38.55 saves per-60 minutes in the regular season. She was the winning goaltender when the Whale were victorious in Buffalo in the 2020 Isobel Cup Play-In Game.

The 5-9 Wolejko played three years at St. Lawrence and the 2017-18 season at Plattsburgh State. The Connecticut native led all NCAA D-III goaltenders in GAA (0.95) and save percentage (.962) in the 2017-18 season. At St. Lawrence, she posted a .900 save percentage in 24 career appearances.

Besides serving as the last line of defense for the Whale, Wolejko is a coach with Pro Crease Goaltending, where she works with goalies from youth to the prep level. She is also an intern for Dr. Jason Emery, a sport and clinical psychologist. "Dr. Emery has been an awesome mentor and I look forward to pursuing a career in this field," said Wolejko.
