Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
NORWICH, CT - The Connecticut Tigers are proud to announce a partnership with AM 1310 WICH to be the flagship station of Tigers radio broadcasts for the 2010 season. The Tigers will air 73 of 76 regular season games on Norwich's Personality Radio in addition to any post-season coverage.
The Connecticut Tigers inaugural season begins on the road on Friday, June 18th when the Tigers visit the Tri- City ValleyCats in Troy, New York. The home opener at Dodd Stadium is Saturday, June 26th against the Vermont Lake Monsters at 7:05 p.m.
"I can't tell you how happy we are to have WICH as our radio partner," said Assistant General Manager and "Voice of the Tigers" Eric Knighton. "It was very important to us and our fans to have the games broadcast on radio and WICH is a great home for our inaugural season."
Each broadcast begins with a 15-minute pre-game show that features game recaps, interviews and news from around the New York-Penn. League.
Broadcast coverage for the three games not airing on WICH: Monday, July 26 at Lowell at 12:05 p.m.; Wednesday, July 28th at Staten Island at 11:00 a.m. and Monday, August 9th at Brooklyn at 12:00 p.m. will be announced at a later date.
The broadcasts feature two new voices in 2010. The 38 home games will feature a two-man booth led by Eric Knighton, who is entering his sixth season broadcasting professional baseball. Knighton previously called games for the Oneonta Tigers and the Ogden Raptors, a Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate in the Pioneer League.
He will be joined in the booth for home games by Jon Versteeg. Versteeg comes to the Tigers from the Joliet JackHammers of the independent Northern League where he called all 96 games over the last four years. He is a graduate of Syracuse University and native of Torrington, CT. Versteeg will announce all 38 road games solo.
The Connecticut Tigers are entering their first year at Dodd Stadium and will play a 76-game schedule from mid-June through early September as part of the 14 team New York-Penn League, the oldest continually operated Single-A League in the minor leagues. The Tigers moved to southeastern Connecticut in April after playing 44 seasons in Oneonta, NY.
