Condors force Game 6 with 5-4 comeback victory

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- LW Mark Derlago scored with just over five minutes left in regulation to propel the Condors to a dramatic 5-4 victory in front of 5,090 fans at Rabobank Arena Saturday night. The win forces the best-of-seven series back to Victoria for Game 6 Tuesday night, with the Salmon Kings leading 3-games-to-2.

In a period that featured seven combined power plays, the Condors held the lead through 20 minutes. LW Brett Lutes came through with his first tally of the post- season at 1:04 to give Bakersfield the 1-0 lead. D Dylan Yeo notched his fourth, on the power play, at 6:51 to tie the game up. F Andrew Ianiero buried his own rebound late in the frame to regain the advantage. Shots were 11-11 in the period.

Victoria tied the game up in the second frame, getting a power play goal by C Ash Goldie at 8:24. They took their first lead of the game at 11:30, getting a tally by F Ryan Wade, his fourth of the playoffs, to make it 3-2. The Condors didn't quit, however, and tied the game up with just over a minute remaining in the frame. F Eric Sonnenberg potted his first of the playoffs, banging in a centering feed from F Alexander Naurov. G Yutaka Fukufuji was busy in the second, stoppng 14 Victoria shots, including several acrobatic glove saves.

In the third period Victoria regained the lead with a goal by RW Wes Goldie at 10:41. But just 67 seconds later Bakersfield evened the score. Rookie C Ryan Salvis notched his first career goal to tie the game at 4- 4. Just under three minutes later the Condors regained the lead for good. Derlago's second goal of the playoffs was banked off the goaltender and in, and the Condors held on for the win.

Game 6 in Victoria is Tuesday night, a 7:05 p.m. face off from the Save On Foods Memorial Centre. Game 7, if necessary, is Wednesday at 7:05 p.m., also from Victoria.

This is the final home game of the Opening Round for the Condors. Should they advance to play either winner of the Fresno-Utah series, the Condors will host Games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary) on April 30, May 1 and May 3 at Rabobank Arena.
