7'1 center Luke Bonner, a Concord (N.H.) native, has joined the Manchester Millrats for the upcoming weekend.
Bonner, the younger brother of San Antonio Spurs forward Matt Bonner, played his high school ball at Trinity High School in Concord. In college, he played one season at West Virginia before transferring to Massachusetts (Amherst).
His collegiate career as a Minuteman was highlighted by a trip to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2005, and reaching the finals of the NIT Tournament in 2008. During his senior season, Bonner posted averages of 6.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.
Bonner played overseas this season for Albacomp-UPC Szekesfehervar in the first division in Hungary. Over 6 games, he averaged 9.8 points, 3.8 rebounds per game on 50% field goal shooting.
"Saturday's game is looking like a New Hampshire hoops reunion!" stated Millrats forward and co-owner David Cooper, referring to the number of players on the Millrats and Razorsharks from the Granite State. Those with local ties include:
Luke Bonner 7'1 C Millrats Trinity High School Concord, MA
David Cooper 6'8 F Millrats Central High School Goffstown, NH
Steve Deluca 6'7 F Millrats Merrimack High School Merrimack, NH
Chris Burns - Assistant Coach Millrats Merrimack High School Merrimack, NH
Keith Friel 6'4 G RazorSharks Oyster River High School Durham, NH
The Millrats will be looking to bounce back this weekend with a double-header homestand on Saturday and Sunday nights. On Saturday at 7:00PM, the Millrats will play host to the Rochester RazorSharks, and on Sunday they will face the Quebec Kebs, also at 7:00PM.
Saturday is 'Civil Servants' Night at the Millrats game. All city and state employees will be admitted for $1.00 with a valid ID. The first 25 that show up will be upgraded to VIP Courtside seating.
On Sunday, the theme is 'Veterans and Military Night', and all Veterans and Active Military personnel will be admitted for $1.00 with valid ID.
The first 25 that show up will be upgraded to VIP Courtside seating.
Dave Cummings from Hoops For Heroes will be shooting some of his 1 million free throws at halftime.
The Millrats (1-2) will certainly welcome the familiar confines of the Fieldhouse, after logging a grueling five-day road trip that took them to Puerto Rico and Oklahoma, and saw them hang with, but come up short against, two of the league's top teams. They dropped close games against the Puerto Rico Capitanes 116-104, and the Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry 109-98.
Tickets are available online at www.millrats.com or at the door. Doors open 1 hour prior to tip off.
