Commentary: NIFL daily buzz

The NIFL used to give me a constant stream of material from which to work, now not even a dribble. I'm so disappointed, but that just means I have to be more creative.

Nine is the scheduled number

But only six or maybe less will be played this coming week in the NIFL. On the "will not play list" because one of the teams decided to quit are Billings at Big Sky (folded), Dayton (replacement players?) at Twin City (folded), and RiverCity at Palm Beach (folded). On my maybe list I have Arkansas at Charleston, Tennessee (replacement players) at Fayetteville, and Greensboro at Florida.

Now we do have three that should go on without a hitch, Wyoming at Beaumont, Osceola at Montgomery, and our game of the week, Rapid City at Tri-Cities. My personal opinion is that the Drillers could win their game against Wyoming who is one of the worst road teams in the league this season. Osceola at Montgomery should be interesting as we'll see if Osceola is for real or they've just been pretending to this point. The Aces are coming off their first loss of the season and face a Tri-Cities team bent on revenging their earlier loss to Rapid City, not to mention the Fever at home extremely tough.

Staying current

I can understand the league website not keeping up with scores the night of the games, but now the third day since the last game and still no score on two? Give me a break, folks, I may have been bad at times, but never this bad. At least I don't think I was, but maybe.

Get a clue

I've had some recent emails from some saying they warned me of these problems like I didn't have a clue. Give me a break, I was never blinded by working within the system, just powerless to do much about it. I'm still powerless, just able to open my mouth in public now. Those that think I didn't know there were problems are dumber than me which makes them pretty dumb.

OK

I said yesterday in jest I was starting a league. Some took me seriously, thank you for the contributions, but if you're going to give, open up your heart and pocket book and at least cover my dinner costs. Me starting a league isn't that far-fetched. I get approached every year at least once. Some must think I'm smarter than I really am, but if I was to do such a thing, I do feel I know how to meet the concerns of owners, players, sponsors and fans head on and design things to make it better for all. All I can say is you never know, but odds are, well, guess you just have to wait and see. Anybody have any ideas for a good game if? My email again for contributions and ideas indoorbowl@yahoo.com .

Have to be proud

Seriously the NIFL has some very fine organizations. My hats off to Tri-Cities, Billings, Wyoming, Rapid City, Katy, Beaumont, Cincinnati, RiverCity, Fayetteville, Charleston, Lakeland and Osceola for not causing negative headlines this season. Keep up the good work.

Decisions

Having mentioned the above teams, they are now faced with the decision of next season, even though the season isn't over. Some will decide to stay in the NIFL, and yes, I believe it will still exist and without any major changes, so problems still will be the daily topic. Others will decide to take their ball and play elsewhere. My only advice is to make that decision carefully. Take into account your players, your fans and even your sponsors. Every league isn't for every team.
