Commandos Leave CIFL, Join Ultimate Indoor Football League

July 11, 2011 - Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) - Cincinnati Commandos News Release

FT. MYERS, FL - The Ultimate Indoor Football League is pleased to announce that a second team from the Continental Indoor Football League has decided to join the league as an expansion team for the 2012 season.

"The inclusion of Cincinnati allows the league to maintain its presence in the Greater Cincinnati market," said UIFL president Andrew Haines. "We are thrilled to be able to bring a team with championship pedigree into the league."

Two-time CIFL champion Cincinnati Commandos have made the commitment to join the Marion Blue Racers as CIFL defectors. The Commandos defeated Marion 44-29 in the title game to finish the season 12-0. In their two CIFL seasons, Cincinnati compiled a 23-1 record.

"The Commandos were actively seeking a new league that had a sound structure and a more diverse group of teams in which to compete, Wwe found that in the UIFL," said Commandos owner Dennis Whitman. "I would like to thank Mr. VanDyke and his staff for their help in bringing this deal together. I look forward to what the 2012 season brings."

The Commandos are the third expansion team for the league's North Division and the sixth overall. The other five expansion teams are Marion, Ohio, Danville, Ill., Rome, Ga., Ft. Myers, Fl., and Tupelo, Miss.

Cincinnati plays its home games in the historic Cincinnati Gardens. For more information about the Ultimate Indoor Football League visit the league website at or call 877-500-UIFL (8435).
