KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Command has assigned former Philadelphia Soul stand-out receiver Syvelle Newton to the 2012 roster. A product of the University of South Carolina, Newton tallied 100 receptions for 1,286 yards and 21 touchdowns for the Soul last season.

While under head coach Steve Spurrier at South Carolina, Newton spent time as the Gamecocks' starting quarterback. He is one of four players in college football history with more than 600 yards rushing, passing, and receiving in his career.

After 2007, Newton signed with the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes. He ended his tenure in the CFL after signing to play quarterback with the Harrisburg Stampede in 2009.

Newton ventured into the Arena Football League in 2010, joining the Chicago Rush in the second half of the season. Despite only playing five games, Newton was able to record 41 receptions for 566 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Newton's brother, Cameron, has also spent time in the AFL, playing defensive back for the Georgia Force after a stint with the Carolina Panthers in 2007.
