Columbus' Matt Gingera Named Easton Player of the Week

December 16, 2014 - SPHL (SPHL) News Release

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (December 16, 2014) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Matt Gingera of the Columbus Cottonmouths is the Easton Player of the Week for December 8-14.

Gingera led the Cottonmouths to a pair of wins over Louisiana by scoring four goals, including two with the man advantage and one game-winner, as Columbus extended their winning streak to 10 games, third-longest in SPHL history.

On Friday, the Winnipeg, MN native scored two goals, including the shootout game-winner, as Columbus defeated the IceGators 4-3. Gingera followed that up on Saturday with another two-goal outing as the Cottonmouths again defeated Louisiana 4-3.

Gingera, who has 10 goals during the team's 10-game winning streak, currently leads the SPHL in game-winning (4) and power play goals (5-tied) and is second in goals overall (12-tied). Last February, Gingera etched his name in the record books by scoring five goals in Columbus' 6-5 overtime win against the Mississippi Surge, joining Chris Wilson, Rob Sich and Steve Roberts as the only SPHL players to score five goals in a single game.

Also Nominated: Corey Toy, Fayetteville (2 gp, 2-2-4, +2), Adam Stuart, Louisiana (3 gp, 2-4-6, +4, 1 shg), Peter Di Salvo, Mississippi (1-0-0, 0.98 gaa, .958 save%), Corey Banfield, Pensacola (3 gp, 2-4-6, +3, 1 gwg) and Kyle Rank, Peoria (2-0-0, 1.94 gaa, .938 save%)
