Cole Ruwe Signs with Surge

Defenseman Cole Ruwe has signed to play for the Mississippi Surge for the upcoming 2012-13 Southern Professional Hockey League season.

Ruwe, 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, will be starting his fourth full season of professional hockey. He has played for the Bloomington Prairie Thunder of the International Hockey League, and spent the last two seasons with the Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League. He began his pro career at the end of the 2008-09 season playing in six games for the Wichita Thunder of the CHL.

"Cole brings leadership and experience not only to our defense but also to our entire team," Surge head coach Jeff Bes said. "I will be counting on Cole to play in every situation this season, and mentor our younger players."

In his three plus professional seasons Ruwe has eight goals and 36 assists and is an accumulative +38.

"I'm excited about this season and everything I've heard about playing on the Gulf Coast," he said about playing for the Surge.

The Surge will begin its fourth season of play in the SPHL on Saturday October 27th at home against the Pensacola Ice Flyers. Once again, this season, the Surge will have 28 home games at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
