Coby Smith signs with Angels

The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball announced today that Shreveport Sports outfielder Coby Smith has been sold to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Smith played in 82 games with the Sports last season and hit .275 and had 25 RBI's and was second in the American Association in stolen bases with 42.

Coby has played five seasons of professional baseball starting his career in the Southeastern League. The Ashford, Alabama resident played in the Northeast League in 2004 with a road team, the Aces. The 26-year old Smith spent most of the 2005 season with Shreveport where he hit .313, scored 54 runs and collected 123 hits (3rd in the league). He finished that year with the St. Paul Saints.

The Sports outfielder will report to the Angels spring training camp in March and was the 10th league player to be sold to a major league organization since the end of the 2006 season.
