Coach Darnell Lee Returning

LAKE CHARLES LA. - At a press conference held in Lake Charles Thursday Chris Meaux, co-owner and general manager of the Louisiana Swashbucklers announced head coach Darnell Lee will return to the team for the 2012 season. The announcement was held in conjunction with the introduction of Kyle Thorne and Chris Meaux to the media as the new co-owners of the Bucs.

Lee is one of the most decorated indoor football coaches in the southern region. His first year with the Swashbucklers as head coach was in 2006. He took over from Kip Texada, who was head coach in the inaugural season in 2005. Lee has been head coach of the Bucs every season since except for 2010 when he left to take a coaching position with a team in Alaska. At midseason Lee returned home and was the offensive coordinator for the Bucs under then head coach Michael Warren. He resumed his head coaching duties last season.

A multiple Coach of the Year winner, Lee has guided the Swashbucklers to three championships in 2007, '08 and '09. The first two were with the Intense Football League and the third in the inaugural season of the Southern Indoor Football League. The Bucs have been to five title games consecutively and were the Western Conference champions of the SIFL in 2011. In 2008 the team went undefeated.

"It just would not be the Swashbucklers without Coach Lee," Meaux said. "He has been a part of this team from the beginning. He knows how to turn players into champions. His knowledge of the game is impressive. With Coach on board for next year the Bucs will be a contender."

Coach Lee said, "I want to thank Chris and Thom (Hager) for the confidence they have shown in me. I have been fortunate to be a part of the Swashbucklers. We have accomplished great things in the last six seasons but there is more to be done. I am looking forward to next season and the challenges we will be facing. We will be working hard in the off-season to get ready for 2012. We will play at our best for another run at the SIFL title."

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
