Cleveland Comets News Release
The Cleveland Comets used the third pick in the 2018 National Pro Fastpitch draft to select Texas State University right-handed pitcher Randi Rupp and on Friday the club announced it had signed the 5-foot-11 Mont Belvieu, Texas native to a two-year contract.
"We are very excited to bring a caliber of player and person like Randi Rupp into our organization," said Cleveland Comets general manager Stephen Dunn. "Randi isn't just a workhorse, she's an absolute thoroughbred. We believe she was the best player in this year's draft and will be the future of this league and our organization for years to come."
A two-time Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year, Rupp closed out her career with a 110-50 record and a 1.69 earned run average. She fanned 1,270 batters in 1,057 1/3 innings of work.
Rupp, a four-time NFCA All-Central Region honoree, leaves Texas State with four school records to her credit including most career wins, most career strikeouts, most career appearances (197) and most career innings pitched.
She finished second in school history in career shutouts (42) and career complete games (106) and third in the lowest career ERA.
Rupp is eager to begin her professional career and excited to be a part of the Cleveland Comets organization.
"I'm so thankful for the Cleveland Comets giving me the opportunity to continue my career and compete with some of the best athletes in the NPF," Rupp said. "I'm looking forward to meeting my new teammates, coaches, and staff and ready to get this season started."
