Cleveland Comets News Release
Cleveland, OH - The Cleveland Comets have made a huge splash today in attempts to shake up the current balance in the NPF. In a trade with the Chicago Bandits, the Cleveland Comets have packaged the #1 overall pick in the 2019 NPF Draft, along with second year 3rd Baseman, Jenna Lilley and cash considerations. In return, Cleveland will receive three All-NPF players in Sammy Marshall, Emily Carosone and Shelby Turnier.
"We are very excited to announce this move" said Comets General Manager, Stephen Dunn. "Although it is never easy to give up the number 1 pick, as well as a promising young player like Jenna, we feel that this trade gives us the depth and overall talent that we have been looking to add to our roster."
Marshall, who enters her fifth year in the NPF, put up career high numbers last season with the Bandits, batting an impressive .388 Avg, 30 Runs Scored and 26 RBI with 15 Stolen Bases.
Carosone enters her fourth season of NPF play this summer, after last year's power surge. Finishing in a 3-way tie for Homerun Champion last season, Carosone blasted 12 Homeruns, while reaching base consistently with a .323 Avg, 31 RBI and a .750 Slugging Percentage.
Turnier, who also enters her fourth season in the NPF looks to build off an incredible 2018 campaign. Turnier threw a whopping 1.12 ERA last year, only allowing 8 Earned Runs over 50 Innings Pitched. Finishing the season with a 5-0 record with 3 Saves, Turnier struck out 46 batters while only allowing 7 walks.
"With these additions and more to follow, we wanted to send a strong message to the league, that we are going after everyone on our schedule with the expectation to win" said Dunn.
