Cleveland City Stars News Release
The Cleveland City Stars proudly announces a new partnership with Charter One Foundation which will directly support the philanthropic efforts of the Cleveland City Stars inner-city initiatives. The three year commitment will result in a joint effort to support the inner-city of Cleveland with more than 10,000 soccer balls for outreach programs for youth, camp scholarships for underprivileged children, a curriculum for youth to teach healthy behaviors and other benefits for the community.
"We are thrilled to be able to support a team that is truly committed to serving the community," said Ned Handy, President & CEO of Charter One. "The Cleveland City Stars have proven their dedication to helping others even before they have played their first game in Cleveland."
During this summer, the Cleveland City Stars and Charter One are planning to work with approximately 1,000 children throughout the inner-city of Cleveland. It is their joint mission to bring encouragement to the lives of underprivileged and at-risk youths living in the inner city of Cleveland through soccer. The partners' goal is to bring education programs and positive role models to the community.
In fact, during the past two weeks the Cleveland City Stars players and staff have already started to conduct free soccer training, IT learning and expertise to build "helping-hand" relationships at different locations with underprivileged youths.
In addition to their involvement with community efforts, the Charter One Foundation is the official Cleveland City Stars Soccer Camps sponsor.
"We are very fortunate to be working with such a great team and bank," said Derek Potteiger. Potteiger, the camp director and CCS # 10 midfielder, who has a huge heart for kids and brings a wealth of experience and energy to the camp director position.
"Charter One is known for their commitment to the community. They give 1% of their pre-tax earnings back to the communities where they do business. The true beneficiaries of the partnership will be the kids. We couldn't be happier!" added Mark Geissbauer, the Stars General Manager.
