Cleveland City Stars News Release

The City Stars took an untraditional approach in their latest acquisition. After repeatedly being contacted by friends of Sallieu Bundu, the Stars front office finally gave in and offered the native of Sierra Leone a tryout. What started out as a courtesy audition turned into an unbelievable display from the target striker as he amazed the CCS brass with an array of offensive moves.

The 24 year-old also impressed with his story of triumph in making it to America in order to pursue his dream of becoming a professional soccer player. As a young boy, Bundu and his mother escaped war ravaged Sierra Leone on foot. Mother and son walked for ten days until they crossed over into Guinea. The two spent five years as refugees until Bundu's brother was able to bring them to America. After coming so far, Bundu looks to continue his journey with the City Stars.

"It feels good to be in Cleveland, the people have been great to me," said Bundu. "It is my dream to one day play in Europe and I look at this as a great opportunity to take my game to the next level. Last year the City Stars made it to the semi-finals, so this year I want to help get to the finals. I want to bring a championship to Cleveland."

City Stars Head Coach Martin Rennie was equally optimistic. "We weren't expecting much going in but he turned out to be really good," he said. "Sallieu is strong, works well with his back to the goal, and he's a good finisher. I know he's young and he still has some work to do, but he has the potential to really help our front line."
