Cleveland City Stars News Release

9 June, 2008   Cleveland, OH - The Children's Technology Workshop of Ohio, LLC (CTW) has formed a charitable alliance with The Cleveland City Stars and Computers Assisting People to provide the children of Cleveland with the chance to learn new skills using computers during sessions to be run by the Cleveland City Stars.

Computers Assisting People (CAP) provides computers to those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to use them and be inspired by their possibilities. Director, Dan Hanson, leads the overall mission of CAP, as a 501(c)3 non-profit Ohio corporation that has helped hundreds of people gain access to computers since 1997.

The donated computers from CAP have been loaded for free with software from Chagrin Falls based CTW, owned by Beta Strategy Group, Ltd. (BSG). This curriculum will form the core of what the children learn. CTW has conducted intensive training with the City Stars' players so that they can teach the CTW programs, such as Animation, Video Game Design and Movie Making.

The Cleveland City Stars is owned by the Cleveland Soccer Foundation, and is dedicated to serving the inner city children of Cleveland and engaging with the economically disadvantaged. While soccer plays a large role in the engagement of these communities, this alliance with CTW and CAP shows the Foundation's desire to help the city's children on other levels.

Cathy Horton, owner of CTW and BSG said, "It is important for the young children of Cleveland to learn the value of nonviolent play using technology and to be inspired to develop their own computer skills. It is those children who will be able to make Northeast Ohio the ‘go to' place for new technology companies. By creating a skilled local workforce from the ground up, Cleveland can attract new businesses. The children hold the key to Cleveland's rejuvenation and we must ensure that they are technologically savvy from a very young age." Horton went on to say, "Economic development is a passion of mine and, as corny as it sounds, it's true to say that the economic success of tomorrow depends on the education of our children today. Putting together the partnership of CTW, CAP and City Stars was truly a joy for me and I hope it will be a rich blessing for our community's children."
