Alexandria left fielder Derry Hammond and Springfield/Ozark right-hander Billy Coleman earned Daktronics Central League Players of the Week on Monday for the period ending Sunday, July 20.
In a week shortened by three games due to the Central League All-Star break, Hammond went 6-for-15 (.400) with a double, four home runs and 10 RBIs. He slugged 1.267 and had a .438 on-base percentage while scoring five runs in four contests. On July 19 versus San Angelo he clubbed three home runs and drove in a Central League record nine runs. The previous record was eight set by Jeremy Murch of Rio Grande Valley on May 8, 2003.
Hammond, 23, a third-round pick in 1998 by Milwaukee, spent five seasons in the Brewers chain and reached Single-A High Desert in the California League in 2002.
