Cleveland City Stars News Release
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland City Stars take to the road this week to rematch the Carolina RailHawks before heading to South Carolina to play the Charleston Battery. The City Stars take on the RailHawks, club of former City Stars head coach Martin Rennie on Friday, and tackle the Battery on Saturday.
The City Stars struggled with first place Carolina at home last Friday, as the RailHawks trumped the Cleveland squad to bring the City Stars record to 1-4-1. After clinching a 0-0 tie against the fourth place Portland Timbers in week five, the City Stars sole victory came against Minnesota on the road in week six, when Joshua Boateng became the second City Stars player to find the back of the net this season to earn the 1-0 victory. Now in tenth place in the USL standings, the City Stars hope to better their record on the road this weekend.
The RailHawks have a formidable 6-2-1 record and feature a sea of familiar faces including former City Stars team captain Mark Schulte, defender Jeremy Tolleson, goalkeepers Eric Reid and Caleb Patterson, and forward Sallieu Bundu. Led by leading goal scorers Gavin Glinton and Luke Kreamalmeyer, the RailHawks have the best goals-for record in the USL First Division, with 11 goals so far this season.
Friday's match against Carolina will be broadcast live nationally on Fox Soccer Channel with kickoff at 8 p.m. and can be viewed at the Buffalo Wild Wings Strongsville and Lyndhurst locations.
Saturday brings the City Stars to Charleston, South Carolina to take on the Battery at Blackbaud Stadium. Currently ranked second in the USL standings, the Battery boasts a 4-0-4 record, and are the only undefeated team in the league. The Battery also has the lowest goals-against record in USL-1, with only two goals allowed. Led by leading goal scorer Frankie Sanfilippo, the Battery defeated the RailHawks 2-1 on the road in week five.
Saturday's match against Charleston can be viewed live on USLlive.com, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
