Cleveland City Stars News Release
After a flurry of activity over the past month, the Cleveland City Stars continued filling their roster by announcing the additions of Hunter Gilstrap, Stephen Rigby and Luke Williams. Given their season opener away from home against the Cincinnati Kings on April 28, the City Stars have now signed a number of strong players and their roster is beginning to take shape. The team will have further decisions to make regarding their roster as training camp starts early next week.
Coming to Cleveland for the 2007 season is highly sought after goalkeeper, Hunter Gilstrap, a former USL Division One player for Miami FC. Gilstrap was drafted thirteenth overall in 2006 in the USL draft and played in five regular season games for Miami FC. In addition to this, he played a number of high profile exhibition matches against Guatemalan, Spanish and Brazilian professional teams. Gilstrap graduated from Clemson University in 2005 and currently runs Clean Sheet Goalkeeping which offers training sessions for aspiring goalkeepers in South Carolina.
Stephen Rigby, a standout at Wheaton College, will help patrol the midfield for the City Stars in the upcoming season. Rigby has a wealth of experience in the USL's Premier Development League (PDL) playing with the Cape Cod Crusaders in 2006 and the Cascade Surge in 2005. In both seasons, Rigby helped lead his respective teams to the playoffs and conference finals. Rigby graduated from Wheaton College where he was a two-time NCAA Division III All-American with the Thunder.
The third player added to the City Stars roster is another midfielder, Luke Williams, who brings a great deal of quickness and versatility to the squad. Williams, a native of Boerne, TX, graduated from Westmont College in California after a stellar career with the Warriors. Alongside Rigby, Williams also played for Cascade Surge in 2005 where he helped the team reach the conference finals.
The Stars will open their first USL Division 2 Season at 7:00 PM on May 19th 2007 against the New Hampshire Phantoms at Krenzler Field in downtown Cleveland.
