(Harrisburg, PA) - Mike Lookingland's goal with an assist from David Schofield in the 45th minute leveled the match which remained unchanged in front of a Sold Out crowd of 2,833 at Skyline Sports Complex on Saturday Night.
The City Islanders 2007 season had a shocking beginning as Wilmington's Charles Nweke tallied a goal during the first minute of play. As the capacity crowd was settling into their seats, Nweke capitalized on a defensive error and finished his effort within seconds of the opening whistle.
It took the Isle Guys another 20 minutes or so to settle in themselves and begin to play with the quality that they had spent the past several weeks establishing. With 10 of the 21 players rostered playing their first match on City Island, there was a definite improvement and comfort level as the match continued.
Just prior to Lookingland's goal, City Islanders rookie Brian Ombiji was denied by Wilmington keeper Tyler Kettering on a penalty kick that was parried away decisively. With several other quality chances as the match continued, Head Coach Bill Becher commented, "We certainly were shocked by such an early goal but we leveled it by halftime and were prepared to star fresh in the second half. We had a lot of positives during that half but we were unable to finish and that is one area where we must improve and will certainly focus on during the week."
The City Islanders travel to Bermuda for two matches against USL-2 newcomers the Bermuda Hogges on April 27 and 29. Harrisburg's next home match is on May 5 against the Charlotte Eagles at Skyline Sports Complex.
