Penn FC News Release
The Harrisburg City Islanders (4-3-1, 13 points) received two goals from Chad Severs and a fine defensive performance in a 4-1 win over the Long Island Rough Riders at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y., on Saturday night.
The City Islanders used their first road win of the year to move into fourth place in the USL Second Division standings, leapfrogging both Long Island (4-3-0, 12) and Cincinnati (3-4-3, 12). Harrisburg has won three straight games for the first time in club history.
Severs, the rookie out of Penn State, scored in the 43rd and 47th minutes. Sumed Ibrahim (63rd) and Shane Crawford (74th) also found the net for Harrisburg. Goalkeeper Dave Kern did not have to make a save in his third straight win.

City Islanders vs. Western Mass Pioneers, Skyline Sports Complex, 7:05 p.m.
The City Islanders are back home this Saturday, June 18, to entertain the Western Mass Pioneers (4-1-4, 16 points). Kickoff at Skyline Sports Complex will be 7:05 p.m.
Harrisburg lost twice to the Pioneers in 2004, the first coming at Skyline last July 25 when a controversial penalty kick call in overtime resulted in a 1-0 Western Mass victory. Eight minutes into the extra session, Harrisburg's Mike Henning was whistled for a foul on the left side of the penalty area, and Pioneers forward Everson Maciel beat City Islanders keeper Michael Behonick for the p.k. and the win. That match featured a total of 11 cards and the ejections of Harrisburg's Mo Oduor and Matt Tanzini and Western Mass' Jeff Deren.
The Pioneers also downed the City Islanders 2-1 last August 8 in Western Mass. Dan Rudolph and Deren scored to give the Pioneers a 2-0 halftime lead, and Aleksey Korol scored Harrisburg's lone goal in the 71st minute. Like the first encounter between the clubs, the August 8 match was a heated one, with six cautions issued.
Following Saturday's game, Harrisburg closes out the month of June with a road swing to Pittsburgh (Wednesday, June 22, 7:05 p.m.) and Cincinnati (Friday, June 24, 7:30 p.m.)
ODDS AND ENDS...
- Chad Severs posted the second multiple-goal performance in City Islanders history on Saturday night. The first came from Matt Tanzini, also against Long Island, on July 17, 2004. Severs has scored four goals in his last four games to assume the team scoring lead and move into a tie for seventh in the league.
- Two other Harrisburg players can be found among the USL Second Division stat leaders: midfielder David Schofield is now tied for the league lead with three assists, and goalkeeper Dave Kern ranks fifth with three wins.
- The City Islanders have allowed only two goals and 14 shots in their last three games. Remarkably, Kern has not had to make a save in his last two victories. Harrisburg's defense figures to be tested this weekend by a Western Mass attack that ranks third in the league with 16 goals. Pioneers Rigels Qosa, Neil Krause, and Everson Maciel have all scored four times this season.
- Harrisburg's midfield featured a different look against the Rough Riders. With captain Derek Potteiger sidelined by a knee injury, rookie Adam Clay made the most of his second start, playing a solid 90 minutes and recording his first pro assist on Severs' 43rd-minute goal. Fellow rookie Jimmy Stone also got his first start of the year, playing the first half on the right side. And when Mo Oduor left the game after a violent collision in the 29th minute, Adam Schultz stepped in to play the final 61 minutes.
- Rookie defender Dustin Bixler has played every minute (720) of the 2005 season for Harrisburg. The team mark for consecutive minutes played is 1,441, set by Keith Costigan a year ago.
- The City Islanders remain undefeated (4-0-0) when leading at halftime this year.
