The Harrisburg City Islanders concluded their preseason with a win and a tie over the weekend, defeating Lehigh University 1-0 on Saturday and fighting the Reading Rage to a 2-2 deadlock on Sunday. Both games were played at Hersheypark Stadium.

Rookie Bernie Showers, a product of Northern Lebanon High School and St. Francis University, scored twice over the weekend. Defender Adam Schultz accounted for Harrisburg's other score, while midfielder Matt Crist registered two assists.

Harrisburg used a mix of trialists and veterans in the two matches.

Tuesday, April 12 – Practice, "In The Net", 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Wednesday, April 13 – Practice, "In The Net", 8:00 – 10:00 p.m.

Thursday, April 14 – Practice, "In The Net", 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Annual Preseason VIP Gathering, Molly Branigan's, Harrisburg, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Friday, April 15 – Travel to Cincinnati

Saturday, April 16 – City Islanders at Cincinnati Kings, Corcoran Field, 7:30 p.m.

The City Islanders open their 20-game regular season schedule this Saturday, April 16, on the road against the expansion Cincinnati Kings. Game time at Corcoran Field (on the campus of Xavier University) is 7:30 p.m. The team departs on Friday.

Harrisburg's home opener is set for Saturday, April 23, when the arch rival Pittsburgh Riverhounds come to town. Kickoff at Skyline Sports Complex will be 7:05 p.m.

Before hitting the road for Ohio, the City Islanders will also hold their Annual Preseason VIP Gathering this Thursday, April 14, at Molly Branigan's in Harrisburg from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

ROSTER UPDATE...

Harrisburg's roster grew to 17 with the announcement of seven player signings on April 7. Goalkeeper Bryan Hill, defenders Tommy Rutter and Adam Schultz, midfielder Art Bartholomew, and forwards Bernie Showers, Jimmy Stone, and Matt Tanzini (who had previously agreed to terms) were all officially signed.

Those seven joined 10 players from 2004 who were already on this year's roster: goalkeeper Dave Kern; defenders J.T. Dorsey, John Lapore, and Craig Tyrrell; midfielders Matt Crist, Steve Fisher, Mo Oduor, Derek Potteiger, and David Schofield; and forward Steve Custer.
