Penn FC News Release

Team captain Derek Potteiger scored in second-half stoppage time to lift the Harrisburg City Islanders to a 2-2 tie against the South Jersey Barons of the Premier Development League on Saturday night in front of 1,925 fans at Skyline Sports Complex. The deadlock moved Harrisburg's record to 6-4-3 (21 points).

Potteiger's score came after South Jersey's Tony Donatelli had put the visitors up 2-1 in the 88th on a long-range drive that beat Islanders keeper Dave Kern (four saves). Ryan Heins opened the scoring for South Jersey in the 13th minute, and Aleks Radovic's third tally of the year for Harrisburg came 12 minutes later.

The clubs battled through two scoreless 10-minute overtimes to produce the tie.

COMING UP FOR THE ISLANDERS...

Harrisburg's tie on Saturday, combined with two wins last week for the Long Island Rough Riders, sets the stage for a pivotal Atlantic Division showdown this Saturday, July 17, when the City Islanders face the Rough Riders at Long Island's Mitchel Athletic Complex. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Entering the week, the Islanders maintain their hold on second place in the Atlantic, 13 points behind the first-place Pittsburgh Riverhounds (11-2-1, 34 points). Long Island, securely mired in last place a month ago, has now won four of five games to improve to 5-8-1 (16 points).

With a loss on Saturday, Harrisburg's lead over Long Island would shrink to just two points. The Islanders defeated Long Island 3-0 in their only previous meeting, on June 18 on City Island.

The Islanders then return home for home games on Friday, July 23 (Westchester Flames, 7;35 p.m.), and Sunday, July 25 (Western Mass Pioneers, 2:05 p.m.). The latter match was rescheduled from June 5, when rain led to unplayable field conditions at Skyline.

ODDS AND ENDS...

- Harrisburg remains winless (0-3-1) when allowing the first goal of the game. The Islanders are 6-1-2 when scoring first.

- Moffat Oduor's assist on Aleks Radovic's 25th-minute goal on Saturday was his first point as an Islander.

- Keith Costigan remains the only Islander to have played every minute (1,244) of the 2004 season.

- The Islanders' average attendance of 1,606 ranks fourth in the Pro Soccer League, behind Utah (2,817), Wilmington (2,136), and Long Island (2,111).
