(Harrisburg, PA) - The Harrisburg City Islanders (5-1-4) defeated the New Hampshire Phantoms (1-7-4) Saturday night by a score of 2-0, at Skyline Sports Complex in front of 1,422 fans. Both teams struggled to muster any substantial opportunities during the first twenty minutes of play but the Islanders were able to keep the play in the offensive half of the field
The hosts broke open the draw in the 27th minute when midfielder Mo Oduor received a ball on the Phantoms end line and proceeded to turn his defender. A quick glance across the field drew Goalie Brian Levey off his near post, allowing Oduor to slot a low ball into the New Hampshire net.
Neither team mounted any other meaningful opportunities before the end of the first half. Play continued to get more and more aggressive and several cards were seen, however the Islanders maintained possession and continued to apply the majority of the pressure within the Phantoms' half of the pitch.
It wasn't until the 59th minute when an aggressive Brian Ombiji found himself one on one with the Phantom goalie, after a slotted through ball from midfielder Mike Lookingland fell to his feet. He took a quick outside touch past a charging Levey and easily deposited the ball into the empty net.
As the second half came to a close both teams had several quality opportunities, however neither could beat lively goalies at either end of the pitch.
With the win the Islanders continue their unbeaten streak (3-0-3) at the friendly confines of Skyline Sports Complex. The Islanders next face the Ocean City Barons (PDL) in U.S. Open Cup action on Tuesday June 26 and return to City Island on Wednesday June 27 for an exhibition match against the USL-1 defending champion Vancouver Whitecaps.
