Penn FC News Release

With the first whistle of the season only 66 days away, the City Islanders are excited to announce their 2009 schedule.

Looking to build off of 2008's 8-3-12 campaign, it has been a busy off-season in the Islanders front office. The management and coaches have been preparing for another action packed season on City Island. Players are getting fit, and familiar sponsors will continue to support the Islanders' quest for their second championship in three years.

Adding to returning fan favorites, such as Dustin Bixler and David Schofield, coaches Bill Becher and Steve Widdowson have been busy scouting talent. Through the Info Sports Combine in Florida, the USL combine in South Carolina, and the Islanders' open tryouts in Harrisburg, hundreds of potential players have been seen and evaluated. The level of play at the tryouts made it clear that the Islanders will have what it takes to contend for the title once more. If you missed out on the previous tryouts, there's still time to lace up your boots and impress the coaches. The Islanders' last open tryout before preseason camp opens March 16 will be held March 11 at In The Net.

The roster won't be the only thing to have a new look in 2009. Fans will be excited to see changes happening on City Island as well. The baseball infield has been removed and replaced with grass to ensure smooth play throughout the pitch. Fans will be able to enjoy their Troegs Beer, Turkey Hill Lemonade, Bricker's French Fries and of course great soccer without a backstop hindering their view. And the fun won't stop after the final whistle. You can join the Islanders players and staff at their new post-game party location at Sam Bucca's Pizza Pub downtown on 2nd street.

During the off-season, you may have seen a few Islanders players out in the community. Winter youth clinics have been held at In the Net and Twin Ponds West to help spread quality soccer throughout the region. Tiki Mon and players have been visiting local schools as part of the Capital BlueCross' "Mind, Body, Soccer" assemblies program to promote healthy living.

With so much going on, the grass promises to be greener, both figuratively and literally, during the Islanders' sixth season. Season Tickets are on sale now, so be sure to gets yours today. Mark your calendars and we'll see you on the Island!
