THE WEEK THAT WAS...
The Harrisburg City Islanders ran their club record unbeaten streak to six games last week with a 1-0 win on Wednesday, June 22, in Pittsburgh, and a 2-2 deadlock on Friday, June 24, in Cincinnati.
Harrisburg (6-3-2, 20 points) sits in fourth place in the USL Second Division entering the week, two points behind third-place Wilmington and five points behind both Charlotte and Western Mass.
Derek Potteiger scored Harrisburg's lone goal in Wednesday's win in Pittsburgh. The City Islanders' captain slotted home a loose ball in the 14th minute, marking the first time he has scored against his former team. Goalkeeper Dave Kern and a hard-nosed defense combined to shut out the Riverhounds on their home turf.
Harrisburg trailed 1-0 at the half on Friday in Cincinnati but fought back to take a 2-1 lead on goals by Sumed Ibrahim (53rd minute) and Bernie Showers (a penalty kick in the 64th minute). Forward George Kithas scored Cincy's equalizer at the 70-minute mark. The City Islanders hold a 1-0-2 lead in the season series with the Kings with one game remaining: on Saturday, August 6, in Harrisburg.

The City Islanders conclude their stretch on the road this Friday, July 1, back in Washington, Pa., against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (3-6-0, 9 points). Kickoff at Falconi Field will be 7:05 p.m.
With last week's win over the âHounds, the City Islanders assumed a 2-0-0 lead in their season series with Pittsburgh (Harrisburg also won 1-0 on April 23 at Skyline Sports Complex).
The series concludes in Harrisburg on Saturday, August 13, at 7:05 p.m.
ODDS AND ENDS...
- Harrisburg's backline quartet of Dustin Bixler, Shane Crawford, J.T. Dorsey, and Tommy Rutter has played every minute of the last five games together. Dorsey has run his streak of consecutive starts to 22, a club record, and Bixler remains the last City Islander to have played every minute (990) of the 2005 season for Harrisburg.
- Goalkeeper Dave Kern is tied for second in the league with two shutouts, tied for third with five wins, and ranks third with a 1.13 goals against average.
- All three of rookie forward Bernie Showers' goals this season have been on penalty kicks. All three of those p.k.'s have been drawn by midfielder Matt Tanzini.
- Chad Severs' goal scoring streak ended at three games when he went scoreless against Pittsburgh. The streak stands a team record.
