City Islanders head to Pittsburgh

May 13, 2004 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release

A burgeoning rivalry continues this Saturday, May 15, as the Harrisburg City Islanders head across the state to face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Moon High School Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The match, which will conclude the brief season series between the teams, will come just one week after the Islanders defeated the Riverhounds 1-0 on an 88th-minute goal from Steve Fisher in front of a standing-room only crowd of 2,832 at Skyline Sports Complex. The two clubs combined for 36 fouls and seven yellow cards in the game.

As a result of their efforts, Fisher and goalkeeper Dave Kern, who recorded his first professional shutout with an eight-save performance, were named to the Pro Soccer League's Team of the Week on Tuesday.

The win pulled Harrisburg (2-1-1, seven points) within striking distance of first-place Pittsburgh (3-2-0, nine points) in the PSL's Atlantic Division. It also substantially bolstered the Islanders' U.S. Open Cup hopes: as a result, Harrisburg will clinch a berth in the tournament if the San Diego Gauchos defeat or tie the Utah Blitzz in an Open Cup qualifier on Friday night.

The Charlotte Eagles are currently the only PSL team to have clinched an Open Cup spot.
