City Islanders end regular season with consecutive away matches
September 4, 2014 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release
HARRISBURG, PA- The Harrisburg City Islanders (9-10-7) will end their regular season by traveling to the Carolinas for back-to-back matches. The first will come Friday, September 5th at 7:30 PM against the Charleston Battery (10-9-8), and the last match will be Saturday, September 6th at 7:00 PM when they take on the Charlotte Eagles (9-14-4).
Isles' keeper Nick Noble will return to the pitch after missing last Saturday's match on a red card suspension. The Rochester Rhinos took full advantage of his suspension as they took a 4-1 victory at Skyline Sports Complex. With the win, the Rhinos advanced up the USL PRO table and ahead of the Islanders to sixth place, leaving Harrisburg in seventh and on the fringe of the playoff picture. The Islanders need three points to clinch a playoff spot.
In their last meeting, Islander's forwards Morgan Langley and Jimmy McLaughlin each recorded a goal and an assist in a 4-1 home thrashing of the Battery. Langley, who leads the Islanders in goals, scored the lone goal in Harrisburg's home finale and he will look to regain his scoring momentum as the City Islanders continue their playoff push.
Charleston has been on a tear of late, posting a 4-1-2 record in the month of August. The Battery have also proven to be a very tough host as they have compiled a 6-1-6 record in Blackbaud Stadium and haven't lost inside their home confines since a May 10th loss to the Wilmington Hammerheads. Forward Dane Kelly has led the charge in the Battery's attack, scoring 10 goals on the season. His hat trick in Charleston's 4-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in their last match earned Kelly USL PRO Player of the Week honors.
The Islanders and Eagles will meet for a rematch after Harrisburg stole a 1-1 draw at Skyline Sports Complex in June. Owusu Sekyere gave the Eagles the lead with a 57th minute score, a result Charlotte was seconds away from finishing. In the 90th minute, Danny DiPrima sent a corner kick into the box and Coady Andrews was able to find the back of the net with a header to salvage a point for the City Islanders.
Jorge Herrera, who has recorded nine goals and three assists for the Eagles, will look to lead the home team to victory in both team's regular season finale. Despite their 10th place standing on the table, Charlotte has proven to be capable of beating anyone at home with a 2-0 triumph over USL PRO leaders Orlando City SC last month.
