City Islanders Complete Perfect Preseason
April 21, 2006 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release
(Mill Hall, PA)- The Harrisburg City Islanders finished their preseason with a spotless 8-0 record, thanks to a 2-0 win over Penn State University at Central Mountain High School on Friday night. Teofore Bennett and Jamel Mitchell scored for Harrisburg.
The City Islanders now prepare for their 2006 season opener, on Saturday, April 29, against the Cincinnati Kings at Skyline Sports Complex. Kickoff will be 7:05 p.m.
Bennett's goal, a penalty kick, came roughly 10 minutes into the match, after a Penn State defender committed an intentional hand ball on a Ryan O'Neill shot. O'Neill's effort went in but the p.k. was awarded nonetheless, and Bennett, the Jamaican international, made no mistake with it.
Mitchell completed the night's scoring with approximately 10 minutes left to play, converting a David McClellan feed.
Dave Kern made the start in goal for Harrisburg but left at the 15-minute mark, shortly after a collision with a PSU player. Sam Bishop finished up in net.
Notes: The City Islanders outscored their opposition 24-1 during the preseason.
