Danbury Whalers News Release
Tonight,Tuesday night, February 4th at 7 PM at the Danbury City Hall, the City of Danbury has on the agenda an item which will greatly impact the Whalers ability to operate and survive in the City of Danbury.
We need your support and help.
The item on the agenda is the billing for $410,000 the City of Danbury invoices our organization for Police and Fire Marshall presence at our home games.
We have submitted numerous documented proposals to the City of Danbury for a compromise on this issue, which would be at ZERO cost to the taxpayers without sacrificing the level of safety and security in the arena. The City of Danbury has rejected all proposals.
Through our attorney to the City of Danbury referencing the Freedom of Information Act, we have requested information and documentation as it pertains to this issue. This information has not been provided. We requested this information on 9/14/12 - over 18 months ago.
We have documented to the City of Danbury a selective enforcement and have shown a repeated double standard. The City of Danbury will not discuss this information.
The City of Danbury has also claimed they possess signed documents and agreements on this matter, yet when asked to provide, they cannot.
Hockey team or just Danbury Business X - If the City of Danbury officials can put a tax and overtime security fee to any business without ever having to document, substantiate, justify or transparently review their position in an open and honest discussion - IT IS WRONG!!
If you believe that statement to be true and accurate - be there tonight and let your voice be heard, because the next time it could be your business that they show up at and demand $1400 for an substantiated service.
Our goal is to arrive at a compromise that works for all parties involved.
It is crucial to show the City of Danbury that there is support for the Danbury Whalers and interest in maintaining professional hockey in Danbury.
We also encourage fans to show their support in emailing the following individuals:
