CIFL Announces Schedule and Alignment
Published on November 16, 2006 under Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) News Release
The Continental Indoor Football League was created as a league designed to embrace stability in a turbulent indoor football world. After completing its first season with six teams in front of over 75,000 fans, the CIFL today unveiled its two-division format and 84-game regular season schedule. Each of the league's 14 teams will play a twelve-game regular season, with six of the games home and away.
The CIFL will be divided into two divisions, with the goal of lowering traveling costs during the regular season and playoff season. The Great Lakes Division will have eight teams, while the Atlantic Division will have six. The alignment is as follows, and it includes each team's home arena:
Great Lakes Division
Chicago - Sears Centre, Hoffman Estates IL
Kalamazoo Xplosion - Wings Stadium, Kalamazoo MI
Marion Mayhem - Marion County Fairgrounds Coliseum, Marion OH
Miami Valley Silverbacks - Hobart Arena, Troy OH
Muskegon Thunder - L.C. Walker Arena, Muskegon MI
Port Huron Pirates - McMorran Place, Port Huron MI
Springfield Stallions - Prairie Capital Convention Center, Springfield IL
Wayne County Rumble - Alice Noble Arena, Wooster OH
Atlantic Division
Chesapeake Tide - Showplace Arena, Upper Marlboro MD
Lehigh Valley Outlawz - Stabler Arena, Bethlehem PA
New England Surge - DCU Center, Worcester MA
NY/NJ Revolution - Mennen Arena, Morristown NJ
Rochester Raiders - The Main Street Armory, Rochester NY
Steubenville Stampede - St. John Arena, Steubenville OH
The top six teams in the Great Lakes Division and top four teams in the Atlantic Division will make the CIFL Playoffs, giving a total of 10 playoff teams in 2007.
In addition to the unveiling of the 84-game schedule, the CIFL Rules Committee will be meeting in the upcoming weeks to determine what changes, if any, will be made to the league's exciting 7-on-7 version of indoor football. Any changes to the game format to be made will be for one of two reasons: one, to make rule interpretation a less challenging process for CIFL Game Officials; two, to create a crisper game for fans to enjoy.
All Friday games will kick off at 7:30 P.M. local time. All Saturday games will kick off at 7:00 P.M. local time. All Sunday games will kick off at 2:00 P.M. local time. Times and dates are not expected to change, but may do so because of unforeseen circumstances.
