Chwedoruk Returns to Mallards

MOLINE, Ill. (September 1, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced they have signed right wing Justin Chwedoruk. Per team policy, no contract terms were announced.

Chwedoruk, 27, will make his return to the Quad Cities this season after having first played for the Mallards in 2006-07. The St. Albert, Alberta, native established career highs by scoring 24 goals and totaling 68 points in 71 games in his first stint with the Flock. Chwedoruk last season skated in Denmark for the Rodovre Mighty Bulls, for whom he scored 11 times and totaled 18 points in 39 games.

"Justin plays every shift at an extremely high energy level. He will set the tone for the pace at which our team will play," said Mallards head coach and general manager David Bell. "He is the definition of in-your-face, tenacious hockey which is just what I'm looking for."

The 5' 9", 170-pound Chwedoruk returns to North America for what will be his seventh professional season. He last took the ice on these shores in 2009-10 when he scored 16 goals and produced 33 points in 66 International Hockey League games with the Fort Wayne Komets.

Chwedoruk has scored 93 goals and recorded 212 points in 365 career games with ten teams in six different leagues. Chwedoruk played briefly under Bell- then an assistant coach- with the American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons in 2007-08.

Chwedoruk joins Obi Aduba, Jared Brown, Brad Fogal, Eric Giosa, Joel Gasper, Jason Kostadine, Karl Linden, Brandon Marino, David McKee, Darren McMillan, Bobby Preece, Tyler Sheldrake, John Snowden and Quinn Waller to bring the number of signings announced by the Mallards for the 2011-12 season to 15.

The 2011-12 Mallards will see their first game action when they take the ice at the i wireless Center along with the Bloomington Blaze, Evansville IceMen and Missouri Mavericks for the Icebreaker on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16. The Mallards will open their second CHL regular season on home ice on Saturday night, October 22 at 7:05 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush.
