Chop Chop in custody of police department

Daytona Beach Hawgs News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – ‘Law & Order: Criminal Not Intent.'

There was no intention made, but giving credit to the wrong law enforcement agency could create some problems.

"Honestly, we're not upset with anyone on the mistake," said the voice at the other end of the phone.

Seems the Daytona Beach Hawgs organization received some miss-information concerning who was holding their mascot, Chop Chop, in protective custody.

Chop Chop is actually being watched by the Daytona Beach Police Department. It was officer Linda Gannel in the property division of the police office who alerted us to the fact Chop Chop had been sequestered in their building.

Apologies all around from the Hawgs and Centurion Sports Management, the administrative arm of the National Indoor Football League team.

"At least we had Chop Chop covered by law enforcement," said an embarrassed John Hahn, from Centurion's headquarters in Lakeland, Fla.

The earlier release had announced that the Volusia County Sheriff's office had Chop Chop under their wing; however, a call later in the afternoon corrected which agency was handling the $5,000 mascot.

Hats off to the Daytona Beach Police Department for being so polite and professional about handling the missing Chop Chop.

Both the property room and detective's division, with Sergeant Michael Barnett heading the costumed creature's case were magnificent.

Chop Chop should be released to officials of the Hawgs soon. Rightly so, because without the marvelous help of the police, he may have been mistaken for something other than a friendly boar.

No one would have wanted to see the bomb squad show up to identify the bag Chop Chop was wearing. He could have met with a disastrous fate.
