CHL Turner Conference Semi Finals Set; Schedule Announced

April 7, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

TEMPE, AZ (April 7, 2011) - The picture for the Turner Conference Semi Finals became clear on Wednesday night as the Colorado Eagles, Missouri Mavericks and Fort Wayne Komets joined the Rapid City Rush as the Turner Conference teams advancing to the Semi Finals.

The Rush, the defending CHL Champions, advanced on Tuesday night after sweeping the Dayton Gems in their Opening Round best-of-5 series. Their Semi Finals opponent, the Fort Wayne Komets, also advanced via a sweep topping the Bloomington PrairieThunder. The Komets won three straight International Hockey League (IHL) Championships before joining the CHL prior to the 2010-11 season. The two clubs met twice during the regular season with the Rush winning each contest, one in Indiana and one in South Dakota. The playoff clash between the Rush and Komets is already being dubbed ‚¬ËœThe Battle of the Champions'.

The other Semi Finals match-up pits the Colorado Eagles and the Missouri Mavericks. The Eagles advanced thanks to a 3-1 series win over the Quad City Mallards. After losing the opening game in overtime, the 2005 and 2007 CHL Champion Eagles won three straight games to take the series. The Mavericks seemingly had the most difficult path to the Semi Finals needing a deciding Game Five to beat the Wichita Thunder in their series. The Mavs faced two elimination games trailing 2-1 in the series at one point but came through with a 5-4 win in Wednesday's fifth and deciding game. The Eagles and Mavs became quite familiar with one another during the regular season facing-off eight times with Missouri going 5-2-1 versus the Eagles including 3-1-1 in Colorado.

The Turner Conference Semi Finals will get underway on Friday, April 15 with games in Rapid City and Colorado.
