Syracuse Mets News Release

Syracuse, NY- Right-hander Garrett Mock won a pair of starts this week by posting a 0.60 ERA in a League-best 15.0 innings pitched. Mock, who was optioned from Washington earlier this season after 13 relief appearances, is thriving as a starter for the Chiefs. He becomes the first Chiefs' player to earn Player of the Week honors this season.

On Monday he threw the first shutout of his professional career against Columbus, marking his first complete game in nearly five years. Mock needed just 96 pitches (70 of which were strikes) over 9.0 innings. He struck out ten batters while allowing no walks and just three hits. Sunday at Pawtucket, Mock earned an important victory for the Chiefs, who moved ahead of the Red Sox by a half-game for sole possession of 2nd place in the IL North. Mock surrendered one run on six hits in 6.0 innings, and Syracuse won 6-2. Since returning from Washington in late May, Mock has posted a 2.16 ERA in six starts.

26-year-old Garrett Mock is in his sixth professional season, and just his second pitching above the Double-A level. Last season with Columbus (then Washington's Triple-A affiliate), Mock went 6-3 with a 3.01 ERA in 19 games. He earned a trip to Louisville for the 2008 Triple-A All-Star Game, where he recorded two outs in the 9th inning without allowing a run. Mock is a native of Houston, Texas.

The Chiefs continue their series in Pawtucket, RI tonight at 7:05 PM. The game can be heard, beginning at 6:30, on Sportsradio 620 WHEN.
