HOFFMAN ESTATES - The Chicago Slaughter (6-6), the premier indoor football team in the Chicagoland area, suffered a heartbreaking loss on the road to the Rochester Raiders (9-4) in the first ever outdoor football game in IFL history. A strong 4th quarter push gave Rochester the win with a final score of 43-36. Slaughter QB Randy Hutchinson threw for 153 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. WR Reggie Gray had 4 receptions for 69 yards and two touchdowns. Gray also racked up 97 yards tonight on kickoff returns.

With winds blowing in around 20mph, the Slaughter started things off with three penalties in a scoreless first possession that also saw RB Jarrett Payton leave the game with an injured hamsting. But, a bad snap to Raider's QB Perry Patterson brought an opportunity for Slaughter DE Mike Berry to scoop up the loose ball and run it 18-yards to the Raider's 17 yard line. Hutchinson capitalized on the turnover connecting with WR De'Cody Fagg for the Touchdown. K Ben Aguillar's extra point was good to give the Slaughter a 7-0 lead. The Raiders immediately responded with a quick TD of their own to tie the game.

Penalties continued to plague the Slaughter to start off the 2nd quarter allowing the Raiders to creep up the field for another score to give them a 14-7 lead. The Slaughter made a quick trip back down the field with RB Tavaris Woodley making a 4-yard run into the end zone on a pitch from Hutchinson for a second Slaughter TD. On a missed extra point, the Raiders kept a 14-13 lead. Failing to get into the end zone on their next drive, the Raiders were successful in a field goal attempt to put them up by 4 points. The Slaughter fought back on their next possession with Hutchinson making a quick pitch to Woodley who threw a 20 yard pass into the end zone - which bounced off the chest of the Raiders El-Amin and into the hands of Slaughter WR Reggie Gray for a third Slaughter TD. The extra point was good giving the Slaughter a 20-17 lead. The Raiders were quick to tie the game again with another field goal on their next possession, but the Slaughter turned things back to their favor getting downfield quickly and Hutchinson connecting with 'Big Play' Reggie Gray for his second TD of the evening. With a successful extra point, the Slaughter went into the locker room at halftime with a 27-20 lead.

The Raiders were caught off guard by an onside kick to start the 2nd half giving possession back to Chicago, but the Slaughter were not able to capitalize. The Raiders came back with a quick score by WR Willie Givens to tie the game at 27. On their next drive, a failed Rochester blitz allowed Hutchinson to connect on a 22-yard TD pass to Woodley. Aguillar's second missed extra point on the evening held the Slaughter's lead to six at 33-27. The Raiders were able to cut the lead to three with a successful 16-yard field goal with just over 10 minutes remaining the 4th quarter. After a Slaughter turnover caused by another bad snap, the Raiders were able to take the lead on a 13-yard TD completion and successful extra point making the score 37-33 with just over 6 minutes remaining. On their next drive, the Slaughter cut the lead to just one point with Aguilera nailing a 9-yard field goal. With less than two minutes left in the game, the Raiders recovered a Slaughter onside kick and made it back to the end zone giving them a 43-36 lead. A strong goal-line stand by the Raiders stopped the Slaughter on their last attempt at the end zone giving the win to Rochester with a final score of 43-36.

"This was a very disappointing loss for us," said Slaughter GM Alan Perkins. "The loss of Payton on the first play of the game, combined with two other starters being down [WR Shatone Powers and Kicker Chris Nendick], gave us difficult odds to overcome against a tough Rochester team. Our team has been resilient all year, though, and we are focused on winning our last home game and continuing our playoff run."

Jarrett Payton is expected to return to the field next week when the Slaughter will face the LaCrosse Spartans at home for their last home game of the regular season at 7:05 p.m. (CDT) on Saturday, June 12th, at the Sears Centre Arena.
